Campion was the first woman to make history by becoming one of the women to have been twice nominated for this honor. She was the 3rd woman in history to be awarded the coveted award for direction. When she accepted her award she thanked her crew and all the women who have come before her.

The director Sian Heder, who is hearing the sign language, had a interpreter to accompany her speech where she expressed her gratitude to her amazing cast and family.


Best Picture nominee "Belfast" received the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Kenneth Branagh, who also directed and produced the film, was awarded the award for the tale of a family whose lives was altered by the violence of Northern Ireland. In a surprising twist, the actors from "Encanto" was joined by Megan Thee Stallion in a remix of the smash track "We Don't Talk About Bruno."


"Good News," the "Good News" rapper had a surprise line in her Oscar performance, in which she performed alongside the film's voice actors. The performance also featured the singer Becky G and a plethora of dancers.


The performance was greeted with a lot of enthusiasm by the crowd and was accompanied by viral Twitter posts from those performing, the show was bafflingly didn't contain the most popular parts in the music. In the Disney movie "Cruella" was honored with the Oscar for costume design. Jenny Beavan accepted the award and gave it to her late son-in law.


Beavan dressed in a dress which said that she wanted for her outfit to "honor her inner Cruella" and expressed her gratitude to for her "Cruella" compatriots, including actress Emma Thompson. Japanese's film, "Drive My Car," was awarded the Oscar for Best International Feature Film. The award was given with the help of "Shang-chi" actor Simu Liu and comedian Tiffany Haddish.The film tells of a husband's battle with grieving as he struggles over the death of his beloved wife, and attempts to keep with the direction of a production called "Uncle Vanya."


Troy Kotsur won the Academy Award for his performance in the Apple TV+ film "CODA." It was the first time he has received an Oscar nomination and he set a record as the first Deaf person to be awarded the award. The co-star of "CODA," Marlee Matlin became the first Deaf performer to be awarded the Oscar in 1986.


The award was given by Youn Yuh-jung who won the award for Best Supporting Actress in 2013 for her performance on the film "Minari" and who signed Kotsur's name on the ceremony to declare his win. In the presence of an interpreter Kotsur gave his speech of acceptance using American Sign Language, thanking his co-stars as well as those in the Deaf spaces that enabled him to refine his craft as an actor.
